(Three Hall of Fame catchers played exclusively in the Negro Leagues - Josh Gibson, Biz Mackey and Louis Santop). There are 19 catchers in the Hall of Fame, so Posey’s career WAR rates higher than eight. Eleven of those with a higher career WAR are in the Hall of Fame the other four include Joe Mauer, who is not yet eligible. Posey, though, owns a 44.9 career WAR that ranks 16th-highest among catchers all-time and highest among catchers who were active in 2021, per. Posey, 34, played 100 or more games in only 10 seasons, so some of his career totals - 1,500 hits, 158 home runs, 729 runs batted in - are relatively low compared to others. Over a 12-year career played entirely with the Giants, Posey compiled numbers that compare favorably to most catchers of his era and through baseball history.
